The Philip L. Graham Fund is committed to supporting efforts to advance and expand educational offerings for the children of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. The Fund gives highest priority to programs that improve public education at the pre-college level for disadvantaged, low-income students and schools that address other special needs segments of the population.
In recognition of the role charter schools play in the public education landscape of Washington, D.C., the Fund awards grants each year to three high-quality public charter schools that have demonstrated solid growth in student achievement, strong school and board leadership, significant parental involvement, and prudent financial planning and sustainability. In keeping with the Fund’s giving philosophy, requests for one-time special needs receive highest priority. Proposals from newly created public charter schools are not accepted.
The Fund also recognizes the significant contributions that institutions of higher learning make in the intellectual, economic, and cultural wellbeing of our community.
The Fund awards grants on a solely discretionary basis to area colleges and universities.
